Enterprise Architect & Prolaborate Discussions in one place
The new feature allows discussions initiated within Sparx Systems EA to be accessible to architects and other key contributors in Prolaborate. Discussions made in Enterprise Architect are displayed alongside those made in Prolaborate in the discussions window of an artifact or diagram.
In Prolaborate, users can view or read the discussions made in EA. To edit, add, r reply to a discussion, the user must switch to Enterprise Architect to perform these actions. For more information on these limitations, refer to the section below.
Prerequisites
- Model Security must be enabled for the repository to view discussions made in Enterprise Architect.
- EA discussions must be enabled under Repository Settings.
- In Prolaborate, users must have access to the relevant diagrams or artifacts to view the discussions.
How to Enable Enterprise Architect Discussions in Prolaborate?
To display Enterprise Architect discussions in the discussion window for the artifacts or diagrams in a repository in Prolaborate, the EA Discussions toggle under EA Collaboration Settings must be switched to Show in the Repository Settings.
Click on Menu > Repository Settings to access the settings. The user should be an admin or part of a user group with access to Repository Settings.
How to View EA Discussions in Prolaborate?
In Prolaborate, open the discussion window of a diagram or an artifact to view the discussions made in both Sparx Systems EA and Prolaborate.
Users can filter discussions by status and priority. The status ‘Alert,’ ‘Error,’ ‘Accept,’ ‘Differed,’ ‘Reject’, and the priority ‘None’ is applicable only for Enterprise Architect discussions.’,
Additionally, users can distinguish Enterprise Architect discussions with the following characteristics:
- The background color of the Enterprise Architect discussions differs slightly from that of Prolaborate discussions.
- The ‘Add a reply’ field is not displayed for Enterprise Architect discussions, as users can only view them in Prolaborate and cannot edit them.
- The discussion identifier (ID) is not displayed for Enterprise Architect discussions.
- Options such as Like, Edit, and Share is not available for Enterprise Architect discussions.
- Enterprise Architect users’ profile cannot be accessed in Prolaborate.
Note:
- The ‘EA Discussions’ toggle in the Repository Settings cannot be accessed if Model Security is not enabled for the repository.
- If Versions Explorer is enabled for a repository in Prolaborate, the current state model discussions will always be displayed in all states of the model.
Limitations
In Prolaborate, users can view or read the discussions made in Enterprise Architect. However, to edit, add or reply to a discussion, users must switch to Enterprise Architect.
How to reply to a discussion in Enterprise Architect?
To reply to a discussion in Sparx Systems EA, open the Discuss & Review window in EA and go to the Discuss section. Click on a diagram or artifact to view the discussions and reply as needed.

Using the Prolaborate add-in for Enterprise Architect, modelers (Enterprise Architect users) can view the discussions added in Prolaborate.
